If you can afford it, there is the Othon Palace Hotel on Av Afonso
Pena, exactly in the centre. It's a very modern building with glass facade. They have safe deposit boxes for valuable things. There is also a roof-pool and the staff can help you if in need. However, the rooms on lower stroreys can be rather noisy.
