Yes, there is a zoo (Jardim Zoologico in brazilian), near the lake. It hosts the country's first butterfly house and another with lively coloured birds as well as reptiles and animals. It's 4$ per car to enter (there are 2 entrances: Serrano and Pampulha). It's open all week except Mondays until 4 pm.
