First, there is a pre-carnival week with music which is followed by ball shows liked the Masked Ball and Baile dos Artistas (enjoyed especially by the gays). The next Saturday morning the carnival is opened officially and the different groups are marching off starting at Rua Conde du Boa Vista. Then, there are the main days of the carnival (Sunday to Tuesday), when tourists can also learn some steps of Pernambuco dance at the Casa de Cultura.
