I staid for a week at this backpackers hostel called Che Lagarto and I can tell you I made the best choice. It's the perfect place to meet young globe trotters and I really loves the friendly festive ambiance. The hostel has a tiny front patio where you can sit and have a beer or a caipirinha. You can sit there all night if you want to. There are cheap dormitory beds for 18 US dollars per night and small double rooms for 46 US dollars.
