The places that play samba are called 'gafieiras'. There are a lot of these in Rio, including Elite Club (in the centre, on R Frei Caneca), which also plays raggae. Then there is Estudantina (in Praca Tiradentes), which is open from Thursday till Saturday. A cheaper gafieira is under the beach highway at Botafogo.Have fun!
