hans in response to kirill's question:
I would like to visit a monastery if that's possible. Can you name me one in Rio?(give a different answer) .
I visited beautiful Monasteiro de Sao Bento on Rua Dom Gerardo 68. It was built in the 17th century on Morro de Sao Bento- from there you will have a great view over the city. The monastery's facade is simple but the interior overwhelms with rich golden decoration. Its treasures include also wood carvings and paintings. On Sunday's High Mass at 10 am there is a choir of Benedictine monks singing Gregorian chants. You can visit the monastery for free, between 8 and 11 am and between 2.30 and 6 pm.
