You can hike in the Tijuca National Park. It takes 2 or 3 hours to reach the Pico da Tijuca (about 1000m). You have to follow the signposts to Bom Retiro (good stop to eat) from where there is a footpath to the top. The summit offers a nice view of the bay and the ships. On the way to Bom Retiro to pass by a beautiful waterfall called Cascatinha Taunay.
