Getting around Rio de Janeiro by tram

What about the tram? It has still a line remaining in Rio, the Santa Teresa tram, or "bondinho", as it is surnamed by the locals. The bonde station is on Rua Lelio Gama 65 in Centro, at the top of the small hill. From there trams depart every 30 minutes. The two routes, one ending at Largo das Neves and the other near the water reservoir at Dois Irmaos have been in operation since 19th century. The tram is a good choice if you want to get in the heart of boho Santa Teresa district, but, unfortunately is not safer than the bus.
