You can visit the colonial town of Embu, which is only 28 km from Sao Paulo and it's an established centre for local cratfsmen and artists. If you go there on a Sunday afternoon, there is an arts and crafts fair, which is quite large and popular. The rest of the city is kind of industrialized, so you should visit the colonial centre with old houses painted in bright colours that are turned into antique, arts or souvenir shops.
